How do you know what God has prioritized for you? Is your will aligned with His? Sometimes we do all the right things, we work hard and we pray hard, we expect that what we are doing is God’s will because it seems to be aligned in theory (helping others, serving, being self-less). Have you been there? I am going through one of those mornings of confusion.

I am blessed in being drawn in many directions, I have a family that relies on my ability as a home maker, I have a job that allows me to grow my skills in the corporate world. I have dogs that keep me fully engaged and occupied and I have a church family that I commit my time to. All these are good. But I have only so many hours in the day and I have to make choices. So, David came to my rescue. I prayed.
‘ O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
-Psalm 139:1-4
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. ‘
The first step was to ensure that this is not ego driven. Then I ran my priority list through the Christian lens.
- God
- Spouse
- Kids
- Work
- Community
There are some definite “must-dos” in the list and definite “wish-I-had-time”. God wants me to have fun.
‘ 12 I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, 13 and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God.’
-Ecclesiastes 3:12-13
So, I penciled in time for unwinding as well. Just like that, my to-dos for the day became easier and my little heart found comfort in the words of Ezra.
‘4 Arise, for this matter is your responsibility. We also are with you. Be of good courage, and do it.”’
-Ezra 10:4
It is hard to know if we are on the right path, but our job is to put one foot in front of the other, seeking out the light and hanging onto the outstretched arm of God. He wants to be there every step of our way, miserable or happy. So, let’s go!
Dear God,
As I embark on all these tasks laid on my heart, please help me navigate according to Your will, glorifying You and doing the best I can. Your love carries me through, and I hope that Your voice is the loudest in my head today. Grant me the humility to lift You up in everything I handle. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
