This is not about the beautiful hymn, “I stand amazed”. I have a dear friend who loves to talk. He understands scripture well, has a way with people and loves to read. However, he thinks he cannot articulate his thoughts through blogs or books. He encourages me to write almost every morning with his kind compliments and gentle feedback. I got to thinking, why do I write most if not all mornings?

Is it because I:
- like to talk so much that I have to write when no one is yet awake?
- I write in my journal before I transcribe it here, so it is because I like cursive and a page filled out looks like artwork?
- I have too much time on my hands??
- Or is there an unknown draw to write? It is a stream of consciousness that flows between my pen and paper?
The answer could be all of the above, but it is number 4. Btw, I do not have too much time on my hands, I barely have enough time to get through what I need to get through in a day.
To glean the entire background, this is how my mornings look. I wake up while it is still dark outside and the sun in thinking about poking its head out. I pray, read the Bible and then journal. I do not have an agenda for the journal entry, it just happens. I think it is God’s way of making me “Be Still”.
‘Be still, and know that I am God;
-Psalm 46:10
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!’
Like most of my brothers and sisters, I have a million threads in my head, all processing different things. It is a noisy place, with lists of things to do, people to call, goals to achieve and tasks to complete. So, I think this act of writing a journal entry a day is an answered prayer to keep my mind on Him and His excellent works.
‘ 19 You are great in counsel and mighty in work, for Your eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, to give everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings. ‘
-Jeremiah 32:19
Here is my conclusion, God meets us where we are. He wants to grow close to us. So, He gives us various ways that may seem like a talent or a short coming. If it helps us grow closer to our Lord and Savior, let’s embrace it and keep charging. What a joy. Makes me want to sing, “How marvelous, how wonderful Is my Savior’s love for me..”
Dear Jesus,
My Lord and Savior, how blessed are we that You want us to know You intimately. You find ways that are personal and customized to reach out to us. You meet us where we are. I do not deserve the grace and blessing You shower upon me day by day. May I show gratitude by giving You all glory. Amen.
