I feel. No, I think. No, I feel.

Heart is the source of emotions and mind the source of logic. God wrote the law on our hearts. Why our hearts? I think, because the heart tucks away beautiful, everlasting emotions that are not necessarily logical. For instance, why do I like kids? They are selfish, defiant, germ bags. But all the reason cannot stop the heart from feeling a warm tug of love when kids give hugs or look at us with big beady eyes (even with snot running).

I think the laws are an outpouring of God’s love into our hearts. We cannot and should not reason. We know what is right and what is wrong, it is written in our hearts. This is Moral Law according to C.S Lewis in Mere Christianity.

 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

-Jeremiah 31:33

Let the mind play out logic all it wants and create what-if scenarios and elaborate analysis. If the heart says, “God protected you all your life, think He will not protect you now?”, listen to it. Be driven by love, guarded by truth and scripture to be propelled into a world of endless divine possibilities. God does say that when we go astray in our hearts, we do not know His ways.

‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts,
And they do not know My ways.’

-Psalm 95:10

I remember many moons ago; I was advised by a lady in a position of power. She was talking to me about choice of words. She said, “women tend to say, ‘I feel’, notice that men say, ‘I think’ and that is the edge you need to develop”. With all due respect, “I feel” and that is my style. If God wants me to feel my way in this world, I intend to do just that.

‘With my whole heart I have sought You;
Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!’

-Psalm 119:10

Dear God,

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Teach me to be in tune with what you expect from me, let me be driven by the pure emotions and laws you placed in my heart. Guard my heart from evil and wrong ways. May I bring You glory today and every day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
