There is no risk of my siblings reading this and developing fresh resentment, so I will share freely: I was my father’s favorite. I could do no wrong in his eyes. He would often say the others should take a page from my book. Perhaps he should not have voiced that opinion so openly, but I would be lying if I said it was not wonderful to hear.

Per Psalm 148, God created everything seen and unseens.
“Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
Praise Him in the heights!
2 Praise Him, all His angels;
Praise Him, all His hosts!
3 Praise Him, sun and moon;
Praise Him, all you stars of light!
4 Praise Him, you heavens of heavens,
And you waters above the heavens!5 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
-Psalm 148:1-5
For He commanded and they were created. “
Some of the angels were cast out for disobeying during the time of Noah. Satan and his minions were expelled from Heaven for outright rebellion.
“7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.“
-Revelations 12:7-9
If you were a fallen angel, would you not wonder why God punishes you and not humans? We are helpless creatures who make foolish decisions that show a startling lack of self-preservation. We are not as powerful, luminous, or charismatic as Lucifer. So why does God show us preferential treatment? I do not have a tidy answer for that, so I will go with this: because we are His favorite. Simple as that. Bask in it. We are loved beyond all reason and beyond all deserving. I am going to keep saying what I have always said: I am His favorite child. And so are you.
Dear God,
You are the best friend, parent, and companion. You provide, love, protect, preserve, nourish, and teach. Thank You for the grace and mercy You so generously bestow upon us. As long as I am loved by You, being the least of all creatures is more than enough for me. Being dependent on You is more fulfilling than any power or skill this world has to offer. Teach me to be humble and content in who You made me to be. I pray in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
