Bring Father to Work Day

Most Christians spend at least an hour everyday with Jesus. There is a peacefulness that comes from spending time in communion with God. Praying, reading scripture, journaling and chatting with God. Some Christians call it daily devotional and others their Holy Hour. Hope this is your daily habit. Especially because it is the best thing for you.

As a child I used to think that Priests, Pastors, Nuns, Monks and others who picked serving God as a profession had it easy being in God’s presence continually. But I realize now that it is not true. The world has a way of sucking all of us into the here and now, tearing us away from God. The peace we find flooded with mundane activities lost through the motions of living in a Satan-soaked world.

This can be solved in one of two ways. First, we submit to the world robbing us of our peace, finding solace only in our devotional time. Two, we take God to work with us. I like option 2. It is delightful to take an almighty parent to work for ‘show and tell’ day. Sounds silly, but before you rule this out, see how we can protect the peace only Jesus can give us.

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.’

-John 14:27

Here is my suggestion.

Make your ‘Holy Hour’ or ‘Daily Devotional’ your first activity in the day.

‘Honor the Lord with your possessions,
And with the firstfruits of all your increase;’

-Proverbs 3:9

First fruits are not just what you make, it is your time and what you choose to do with it. God has given us time; it is a resource that we should dedicate to God.

At the end of your daily devotional, ask God to be with you every step of the way. Feel His presence, talk to Him continuously. If something good happens, thank God right then and there. Move around and work like Jesus is watching you and working with you. If something bad happens, plead to Him right away, He is with you.

Here is a fact, the author of the universe wants to be with You, spend time with You. Stop shutting Him out until the few moments in the day or the week that you assign to Him. Having Him alongside every waking moment will help us be on our best behavior and help us navigate through hard situations with ease.

On breaks, go on a walk with Jesus and even before you know it, you will sing, “the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.” (from the Hymn, “In the Garden”). Enjoy God’s ever-loving presence today in everything you do. God Bless You.

Dear God,

Please stay with me all day and every day. I want to do everything with You, under Your watchful eyes and skillful hands. I am so blessed that You, the author of the universe wants to be with me every waking moment. I also pray that You watch over me at night. May everything I say, think, do bring You glory. This I ask in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
