It is a workday morning. Why are we not jumping with joy at the prospect of going to work this morning? I was talking to a friend recently and he said, “no one likes work”. I looked at him sheepishly and he said, “well not all parts of your job, right?”. I acquiesced for fear of sounding fake and pompous. But I love my job (hope he is not reading this today).

Why is work not exciting to most people? Take a survey, go ask people if they like their job. Many will say that they hate it, some will say, they tolerate it and others will say they like parts of it. Rarely will you hear someone say that they love it. Especially, when they are working for someone else.
Why is this? It could be because we forget that God expects us to work and that work is a privilege.
“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”
Genesis 2:15
“‘By the sweat of your brow
Genesis 3:19
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”’
One of the main reasons God wants us to work is so that we can stay out of the death grip of evil. When we spend our time constructively, we will not get lured by the father of lies. Here are a few reasons why a good Christian must love work.
- God expects us to work
- Anybody, a multitude of people can do what you do, but God picked you to be in that specific role, in that specific situation
- We have been blessed with opportunity, skills, talents to do what we do
- We get a sense of accomplishment when we complete our tasks and we get paid
- We work for Jesus; He is the only one that is watching us closely
- When in trouble, if you call out to Him, He will swoop in and help out
- ‘“It shall come to pass
That before they call, I will answer;
And while they are still speaking, I will hear.’ – Isaiah 65:24
- ‘“It shall come to pass
- Work keeps us out of harm’s way, no time to get drawn into Satan’s playground
It is that simple. Remember God wants you to work, do it with gratitude and you will be repaid with abundant joy. You will love what the rest of the world hates, just out of sheer obedience. Hope you have a blessed day at work today. Go get ’em!!
Dear God,
Thank You for loving me and giving me a job to do here on earth. Thank You for equipping me, teaching me and trusting me. Help me make You proud today. Amen.
