The glory of the Lord

I know every Christian has challenging days, like I had this morning. Chaotic thought process, hyper focus on inconsequential matters. You know the evil force is trying to pull you away from a place of peace.

The minute you notice the pattern, turn to God. Yes, there is a pattern. Look for 3 things:

  1. Chaos. Satan prefers to attack with more than one flaming dart.
  2. Negative feelings towards others, counter to what Jesus expects of us.
  3. Desire to take care of the problem or person instead of showing mercy or submitting to God, thinking that no one but you can fix the “issue” at hand.

I had the good fortune of experiencing one of these situations today. Why am I calling it good? Because something wonderful happened. I looked up and through the dawn light I could see the thick dense fog. I love it when it gets foggy like that. Reminds me of various scripture verses from the Bible.

Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.

-Exodus 34:5

Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle of meeting, because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

-Exodus 40:34-35

When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house.

-2 Chronicles 7:1-2

When I watch dense clouds that descend over the water or in the mountains, I imagine that Father Almighty wants to be with us and cannot wait for us to go to Him, so He comes down to us. But He stays over the water because we are too impure as a collective and may be burned to smithereens when we come in contact with Him. Because He is so pure.

This is not theologically vetted and I am no scholar so please take it with a grain of salt. When we do not accept Christ, we have impure hearts and are not cleansed by His blood. If in this state we see the most pure or touch the most pure, we will burn to ashes, like dross that is over exposed to heat. When silver contaminated by dross is put through high temperatures, silver turns to liquid but the dross burns.

When we do not open our eyes to the great commission fulfilled by Jesus, we are chalk full of dross and hence, not ready to be in contact with Father Almighty. But God loves us so much and every once in a while, He visits from afar, even though He can see us from the Heavens above.

Like I said, this is not theologically sound, but the clouds remind me of God’s desire to be with us and that He will take us Home one day. This thought this morning did snap me out of my piddly issues that were plaguing me and set my mind on Him and cheered me up. I went off into the foggy morning with a new found joy of abounding love. I hope you find something that reminds you of His eternal love for you, no matter how silly it may seem.

Dear God,

The world you created for us is beyond beautiful. You handcrafted each atom and large mountain with the same effort and beauty. Thank you for giving us this green earth which reflects Your love for us. Help me seek you out in everything I see today. Amen.
