Who do you lean on?

Do you sometimes feel that the world is attacking you? There is a sinkhole of chaos, and you are drowning in it. And as if that is not sufficient, you have a cold or a fever and you are missing appointments, letting people down. Happens to the best of us. But we who believe in Christ, get to charge on because we are strengthened in Christ.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

-Philippians 4:13

I have heard secular motivational phrases like, “Trust in yourself”, “Believe in yourself”, “You are enough”. In my humble opinion this is dangerous advice. Puts a lot of pressure on the individual to navigate this Satan-soaked world.

Many times, the situations we find ourselves in are out of our control. Weather that causes all kinds of problems, sickness, hurt and pain caused by misunderstandings that cannot be resolved, this is a very long list. I am going through a minor spell right now and hope that I am going to come out stronger at the other end like James promised.

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. ‘

-James 1:2-3

While I was praying this morning, it occurred to me that I do not trust God as much as I should. Why? I know He suffered, was crucified, died and resurrected. He did it for me and everyone else. He laid down His life to save me. Think He cannot get me out of a minor pickle?

13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

-John 15:13

Also, what about all the wonderful things He has done in my life so far? What else is a God to do to gain my trust?! At that, the one that benefits from trusting is me. How convicting.

‘You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.’

-Isaiah 26:3

Dear Jesus,

You took my place and died for me so that I can have everlasting life. You were there beside me through thick and thin. You answered every prayer in a way that was in my best interest. You make me feel loved and important. Please relieve me of distrust so that I can have a deep relationship with You. Teach me to trust You as You trust our Father Almighty. Amen.
